Directions
For topical use: Blend with a carrier oil before applying to the skin, 5 drops per 10ml of carrier oil (i.e. almond, apricot, jojoba.)
For diffuser or vaporiser: Add 4-8 drops of essential oil as per instructions of device.
Insect Repellent: Diffuse a few drops in a diffuser or apply in carrier oil to the skin to repel annoying insects.
Plant Pests: Citronella can be added to a little warm water, shaken vigorously and sprayed on your lettuce to repel pests, repeat 3 days in a row.
Cat Repellent: Spray 20 drops of citronella diluted in 200 ml of warm water (with a small squirt of dishwashing liquid) where cats scratch or urinate. They dislike the scent and will avoid these areas.
Flea Repellent: Add 20 drops of citronella and 20 drops of Eucalyptus to 60ml vodka and 40ml water and spray on carpet and furniture. Repeat as required.
Precautions
- The scent of Citronella may be irritating to some asthmatics.
- Never ingest essential oils.
- Never use them undiluted on your skin.
- Never use essential oils topically on babies under 3 months old (except under the guidance of a qualified therapist). If using topically with children, halve the amount of essential oils used (e.g. 2 drops per 10 ml).
- Avoid continual repetitive use - not more than 4-5 days in any week, unless in severe circumstances or under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
- Can irritate the skin, dilute well.
- If accidentally ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health professional.
- Avoid contact with eyes - flush with water.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Avoid during pregnancy.
