Smoothies are a go-to snack in our house, especially after school or when we’re on the go between activities. These healthy smoothie recipes for kids are not only delicious but great for supporting energy and immune wellness. Our smoothies are usually green as spirulina is a staple addition – but the kids, now 11 (Isla) and 8 (Leo), have fun mixing it up when they make their own.
We have a wide array of smoothie ingredients and superfoods for kids, like spirulina, bee pollen, and protein powders. With a mix of high-protein smoothies and supergreens – they’re easily customisable – and adding immune-boosting ingredients like blueberries, bee pollen and acai has been great for helping them keep colds and flus away.
If a smoothie is the afterschool snack, I’ll make it extra filling with plenty of pea protein and nut butter to get the kids through till dinner. The regular addition of nourishing smoothies helps me to relax about what they choose to eat (or not eat) at mealtimes, which is a win for all of us!
