1. What does healthy skin mean for you?
Healthy skin is skin that looks and feels great. It's skin that's free from any significant damage or disease and is functioning at its best. This means your skin is soft, smooth, has an even tone, and is well-hydrated. Healthy skin also has a strong protective barrier that helps to shield your body from environmental stressors, while keeping moisture locked in. When your skin is healthy, it's typically free from blemishes, like pimples or irritation, and has a natural, youthful glow. To keep your skin healthy, you need to take care of it by washing it regularly, staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, and protecting it from harmful UV rays.
2. What are your skincare non-negotiables?
My skincare non-negotiable is lymphatic facial massage with my fave facial oil. I like to do this with my hands or Gua Sha while enjoying time in the sauna. Lymphatic facial massage is a game-changer! Try it next time you’ve finished your workout session at the gym.
3. Tell us about your AM and PM skincare ritual?
My AM skincare routine is focused on internal skincare.
I may or may not wash my face in the morning and tend to keep the external products quite low maintenance. If I do pop something on my face it’s usually Tailor Skincare Moisture and if I’m getting out into the garden I’ll use a natural SPF, I love the new Frankie Apothecary SPF.
I then focus on internal skincare by hydrating my system, stimulating digestion, and taking a blend of skin-loving internal active ingredients.
- I’ll start by having a shot of greens powder with Apple Cider Vinegar. I’m not married to any one greens powder but I do look for blends with Spirulina and Chlorella. I’ll also add in a scoop of pure Vitamin C powder for a skin loving and digestive boost.
- Then I drink a full glass of water with added minerals. I’m currently using the CMD drops from BioTrace while popping a quality probiotic and a couple Lifestream - Collagen Booster caps. I’m on my 5th or 6th bottle and can visibly notice the difference in my skin when I stop taking them. They’re a blend of Hyaluronic Acid and plant ceramides which are super hydrating and protective to the skin.
- I’ll then boost my morning cuppa with Superfeast - Tremella Mushroom Powder (the super mushroom for the skin), Collagen Powder, I like the unflavoured one from Two Islands and a dash of MCT oil.
In the evening my external skincare routine picks its game up.
- I’ll start with a lymphatic facial massage and cleanse my skin with Tailor Oil Cleanse and follow with the Antipodes -Gospel Vitamin C Skin-Glow Gel Cleanser as a double cleanse. I love this gel cleanser as it leaves my skin feeling clean, smooth and nourished.
- A couple times a week I’ll also do a mask. At the moment I’m loving the Antipodes -Flora Probiotic Skin-Rescue Hyaluronic Mask to rehydrate my skin. But I also love a classic Tailor Polish Mask if my skin needs a bit of a deep cleanse and detox.
- I’ll then use the Kumo - Phytodose Milk Toner, sprayed onto my hand and applied. I’ll also sporadically mix in a pinch of Tailor Gold Dust for a super charged Vitamin C brightening booster.
- I’ll then finish with a blend of Tailor Renew and Tailor Moisture.
4. Do you change your skincare with the seasons?
I do, my skin tends to need more oils in winter so I apply more facial oils to my skin and in summer it needs more hydration so I lean into using hydrating, water based products.
5. As an award-winning skincare founder with a passion for evidence-based products, what skincare ingredients are you most excited about this year?
- Ceramides because they help to improve skin hydration, enhance barrier function, support elasticity, reduce sensitivity, and improve skin texture, making it smoother, more supple, and less prone to irritation and reactions.
- Functional Mushrooms especially Tremella because Tremella mushroom is rich in polysaccharides, antioxidants, and compounds that can help to boost skin hydration, brighten the complexion, support cellular health , and support natural collagen production for a youthful and radiant appearance.
