Q: Will this spray repel fleas from a dog which belongs to an elderly patient my nurse visits almost daily?

A: Hello Mariana, thank you for your question. Essential oils like citronella and lavender contained in this product are known for their repellent properties against insects like mosquitoes and flies. However, concerning fleas, their efficacy may be limited. This will most likely, not offer a complete or highly effective solution.

Q: Is this effective against bed bugs, as I am doing the Camino in August? A few of the Alberges (Hostels) have a bed bug problem.

A: Hi John, Thank you for your query. Our supplier has replied “Our product is designed principally to repel insects such as mosquitoes, sandflies and other outdoor biting insects. There is some ongoing research into its efficacy against bed bugs, and some anecdotal evidence of some protective effect – but no assurances can be offered. Bed bugs generally present a different problem to mosquitoes and sandflies - and the solution lies with bedding and linen and the indoor environment. Our spray may have some deterrent effect, and is safe to use in a preventative capacity. We would also recommend reducing exposed areas of skin through appropriate clothing, but appreciate this may be harder in Spain in the middle of summer.” All the best, The Healthpost Team.

“Yes, Citrepel, the active ingredient in the Tui bug balm, provides a good level of protection against ticks, as with most other biting insects for several hours - and there are several recent scientific studies backing this up. As ticks can be quite determined, and also cling onto clothes and climb into unexposed and unexpected areas, it may also be helpful to spray some onto clothes too - focusing on areas where they could cling on or climb up, such as trouser legs and socks. As good practice, Tui Balms still recommend checking for ticks after possible exposure too, even if you've applied liberal quantities of Tui bug spray.”
